John Berney Ladbrooke

1803-1879

John Berney Ladbrooke was born in Norwich, in 1803 and was the third son of the artist Robert Ladbrooke. He spent most of his early life in Norfolk, where he became apprenticed to John Crome, the great landscape painter, whose influence is apparent in Ladbrooke’s early works.
Ladbrooke specialised in oil paintings of the Norfolk landscapes and its environs. He went on to become a significant member of the Norwich School and exhibited widely.

Exhibited: Royal Academy, British Institute, Norwich Society.
