Janet Kenyon

Born 1959

Janet Kenyon was born in 1959 in Bolton Lancashire. She studied at the Bolton College of Art and Design and won the Laing Watercolour Competition, Northern Region whilst still a student.

Since then she has won many other competitions such as the Royal Watercolour Society / Sunday Times Cityscape Prize in 2009 and has held exhibitions in Salford, Bury and the Lowry Art Gallery Manchester.

Her paintings have been compared to works by Atkinson Grimshaw, and she has described how she works: ‘My distinctive style is achieved via a highly individual painting technique. Combining cold water dyes with wax resist to create bold statements of texture, mood and light. My watercolour painting 'Reflected Glory' is a window into the past shown by the passing of time in the once grand building now neglected and derelict, reflecting and now becoming part of the stark new structure over shadowing it and the ever watchful eyes overlooking it.’
