Emil Georges Weiss

b. 1861

Born in Strasbourg on 20th January 1861, Weiss painted genre scenes, portraits, landscapes and still life. He was the pupil of Leon Bonnat and Antoine Grison, making his debut at the Paris Salon in 1880. Exhibiting regularly at the Salon des Artistes Francais, he was a founder of the Salon d'Automne of which he became the treasurer. His small jewel-like genre paintings were inspired by Meissonier and his work was close in tradition to the artists of the Swiss School such as Brion.
