Andrew White

Born 1968

Andrew White was born in Louth, Lincolnshire in 1968. From an early age he showed a keen interest and ability in painting. The artist believes that the inspiration for his chosen career owes much to his local up bringing in Lincolnshire where he gained an appreciation of rural England.

Andrew spent two years studying at Lincoln College of Art and Design from where he won a place at the Slade School of Art in 1986. Here he won first prize for best traditional painting. Once Andrew had gained an Honours Degree in 1991 he married his childhood sweet heart, Rachel and today they work together as artist and muse. Members of their respective families feature in Andrew’s canvases. He prefers traditional figurative and landscape subjects. Influenced by the Old Masters and Victorian painters, Andrew combines his own style with the techniques of these past craftsmen. He has striven to reestablish confidence in traditional painting. Through the soft glowing surfaces and harmony of composition Andrew’s work conveys an aura and a haunting atmosphere that bring reflections of the past into the present.

Through hard work and skill, Andrew has achieved the reputation of being one of Britain’s most exciting young artists.
