Biography
Lilian Cheviot was a British artist who studied at Frank Calderon’s School of Animal Painting and Walter Donne’s Life School.  She lived in South-Molesey, Surrey and Kensington and she painted figure and animal subjects.  Cheviot had distinguished patrons and she produced many illustrations for ‘The Graphic’ as well as other magazines.  She exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1895 and 1899 and is best known for her paintings of dogs.  She particularly excelled in the portrayal of the Pekingese and the Scottish Terrier.  Her most successful portraits are those of single dogs in simple pose.
