Biography

Charles Walter Simpson was born in 1885 at Camberley in Surrey. He studied art in Paris at the Academie Julian.  A painter in oil, water-colour and tempera, his subject matter included birds, animals, hunting scenes, landscapes and marines. Simpson won a gold medal at the Panama International Exposition in San Francisco, a silver medal at the Paris Salon in 1923 and a gold medal at the Paris Olympic Exhibition in 1924.  He was also author and illustrator of Leicestershire and its Hunts, 1926 and Animal and Bird Paintings, 1938, as well as many other works.
