His father Charles Hunt was a painter of genre scenes, and his brother Edgar Hunt is well known for his portraits of chickens, goats and rabbits. Hunt is best known for his paintings of farmyard scenes, particularly of calves, horses and dogs. His paintings achieve superb colour and are meticulously detailed. He lived in Wandsworth, London, and exhibited works at the Royal Academy from 1881, titles of paintings shown there include Best of Friends and Twins. In 1885, Dog in the Manger was bought by The Chantrey Bequest and can now be seen at the Tate Gallery. His painting, Babes in the Wood is in the Sunderland Museum and The Dog's Home is in the Russell Cotes Art Gallery, Bournemouth.
