Paul Seignac was born in Bordeaux on 12th February, 1826.
He was a pupil of the artist Picot and he made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1849. He also received an honourable mention there in 1889.
Seignac was painting in the French realist tradition begun by Breton and Millet. He painted genre scenes, usually on small mahogany panels, depicting appealing interior scenes with children. His subjects are sensitively portrayed and exquisitely painted using beautiful lighting effects and soft colours. Other contemporary artists painting in this style were Edouard Frere, Duverger and Dargelas all of whom were popular.
