painting by Oliver Clare
Oliver Clare was a still life painter of fruit and flowers. He was the son of George Clare and the brother of Vincent, both of whom painted still life subjects. The family lived and worked in Birmingham.

His paintings, often painted in pairs, demonstrated considerable skill in capturing the textures of fruits, especially grapes, plums, peaches and gooseberries. Clare's subjects are often set against mossy backgrounds producing a more informal composition than many of his contemporary artists.

Clare's pictures are now much sought after by collectors in Britain, Japan and the United States of America.

Exhibited : Royal Academy ; Royal Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street.
