Robert King biography
Robert portrays a variety of subjects- from his beloved beaches and estuaries of the South Coast, Cornwall and Norfolk, to sporting events, such as the Henley Regatta and Cowes and views of Europe and North Africa. Robert King was born in Leicester in 1936. He attended Leicester College of Art (1952-54) as a part-time student before completing two years army service in Egypt between 1954-56. He resumed art school in 1957. Robert worked as a shoe designer but continued to paint and exhibit in Leicester, London and abroad.

Robert King has exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute, London and the Paris Salon. His first solo exhibition in London was held at the Medici Gallery in 1980, where he has had five subsequent exhibitions. He became a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and the Royal Society of Marine Artists in 1985. In 1988 he exhibited in the USA and Canada for the first time. He also held one-man exhibitions in Jersey and Lymington, where he moved, in 1989, to a coastguard's cottage overlooking the Solent.

Since 1989, Robert has exhibited on eight occasions at Burlington Paintings. His last exhibition in 2004, entitled, 'Robert King's Sceptred Isle' was an outstanding success. In 1996 Robert was commissioned by a recently amalgamated Cavalry Regiment, The Light Dragoons, to paint the occasion of the presentation of the Guidon to their Commander in Chief, Her Royal Highness the late Princess of Wales.
